The Grand Theatre, in Doncaster, South Yorkshire
THE GRAND THEATREWell, not technically gone, it's still there, but the chances of it reopening look as remote as ever.
Opened in 1899 as the Doncaster Grand Theatre and Opera House it enjoyed some huge productions and even bigger stars grace it's stage.
It had been designed by John Priestley Briggs a student of the great master of theatre design Frank Matcham.
It was used later as a bingo hall until finally closed in 1995. Today it sits (grade II listed) almost derelict under the armpit of the massive and newly expanded Frenchgate Shopping Centre, which one day we hope will see it open under it's wing.Interactive 3D ViewStreet Map
