EPWORTH OLD RECTORY

Epworth Old Rectory at Donny OnlineSamuel Wesley built the house in 1709 after fire had destroyed the earlier building from which John was rescued as 'a brand plucked from the burning'. Susanna Wesley held her famous Sunday evening meetings in the kitchen when Samuel was away in London. In this house John and Charles grew up as boys. The Wesley Memorial was built as a memorial to the Wesley brothers in 1888-89.

Directions

Epworth lies on the A161 road between Goole and Gainsborough. It can also be approached on the M180 leaving at Junction 2 where Epworth is signposted 3 miles. Rail travellers should book to Doncaster; bus services 291 and 399 leave for Epworth from the Doncaster South Bus Station, which is a short walk from the Doncaster Railway Sation. Alternatively, taxis may be used. Doncaster is approximately 16 miles from Epworth.
