A brand new documentary on the Doncaster Rovers Belles, made by Red TV, is to be aired on Sky TV this week.
As a direct result of watching the England women’s football team perform in the 2007 World Cup Finals in Beijing, and discovering that these players who are at the top of their sport received very little reward for their efforts, RED TV were inspired to find out what makes these players strive for excellence week in week out.
RED TV wanted to discover what drives women to try and achieve their goal in this male dominated sport. Players, Managers, Coaches, Committee Members, parents and fans are all part of the club and are dedicated to supporting the women’s game.
A passion for the sport, a commitment to the club, an inner self belief are only a few of the things that will be evident in this documentary. The Program Manager Vijay Gulwani and Presenter Madeline Roberts came to the Doncaster Rovers Belles to find these answers for themselves.
During the making of this series, the camera team have been privileged to follow the team for part of the 2007–8 season. They have interviewed many players, in doing so they have profiled their daily activities leading up to the big game at weekends.
Managers and coaching staff from the team, through to the youngest group of players in the club the under 10s, have been questioned to try and understand this passion that all possess for the Doncaster Belles.
The cameras have been present at the many events that the club holds during a playing season, from live band nights to midweek training sessions, home games to away games, all have been recorded to enable RED TV to produce a fascinating piece of work.
Watch the first episode on February 29th at 6.30pm on Sky Channel 186.
