Doncaster Features: Tranmere Rovers 2 Doncaster Rovers 4

Tranmere had a header at goal in the first minute which was comfortably saved by Iain Turner but it took only 3 minutes for Doncaster to score.

It was Michael McIndoe, quashing any row rumours by starting the match, who headed into the bottom right corner after Dave Mulligans cross for the right wing.

Tranmere were in shock as just 2 minutes later, former Tranmere youth player Gregg Blundell doubled Donny’s lead…and what a goal it was.

A great team move which involved over 8 short passes and good movement around Tranmere’s penalty box saw Blundell receive a pass of Ricky Ravenhill which he then slotted left footed past the Tranmere goalkeeper into the bottom corner.

The home team wasted two corners and were stunned at conceding 2 goals in 5 minutes but equalised on 11 minutes through Eugene Dadi when Hall swung a corner in from the left. Jackson headed at goal for Turner to make a good save. Dadi got to the rebound which hit the post but on the third time of asking, Tranmere scored and got back in the game.

Neil Roberts had an optimistic 25-yard attempt for Doncaster which he watched go wide left as the pace of the game diminished with neither keeper having a save to make for long periods.

Disaster struck for Tranmere when Dadi won a free-kick but reacted to the bad challenge by elbowing Doolan. Dadi was the dismissed and the game looked over for Tranmere.

Neil Roberts saw another effort go wide left before 10-men Tranmere grabbed an equaliser a minute before half-time.

Paul Brown crossed from the left wing and it was met by Paul Hall who saw the ball fly into the back of the net and his team had drawn level.

Tim Ryan had a long-range shot easily stopped in injury time before the referee blew for half time and the Tranmere players left the pitch the happier at half time.

Dave Penney will have not been happy at half-time as after being 2 goals up and Tranmere down to 10-men, they then came in equal at the break.

Neil Roberts headed a corner at goal but it was a simple save for Achterberg as was Taylor’s shot for Iain Turner.

Doncaster grabbed the lead back on 52 minutes thanks to poor defending and Ricky Ravenhill.

James Coppinger put a great cross from the left which found an unmarked Ravenhill 10 yards out who of course made no mistake in giving the visitors the lead.

Mulligan had a very ambitious 35-yard attempt which missed left before on 64 minutes, Ravenhill went for his second as he hit a curling shot towards goal but it was a routine save for Achterberg.

Goodison shot over the bar for Tranmere from inside the box and Sharpes volleyed wide as Tranmere struggled to try and get back in the game with a man less.

And Doncaster suddenly started dreaming of the playoffs again when Neil Roberts got the winner on 81 minutes.

Coppinger’s low cross found Roberts just 6 yards out who knew exactly what to do and knocked Rovers’ 4th of the day in.

Taylor tried to get Tranmere back in the game but Iain Turner was equal to it as Doncaster won the battle of the Rovers and went back to South Yorkshire with 3 points and playoff dreams, very much alive.

FINAL SCORE: 2-4
