Doncaster Features: Famous Doncastrian TV: Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads?

Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads? was a classic 1970s British sitcom written by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais. It was broadcast 1973-1974 on BBC1, and is a colour sequel to the mid-1960s hit The Likely Lads.

The first episode was entitled Strangers on a Train and was filmed at Doncaster Station. The story goes that the lads are reunited by chance, after five years, aboard a homeward-bound train. Unfortunately for Bob, he inadvertently becomes stranded at Doncaster railway station, with fiancee Thelma waiting for him on the platform at Newcastle.
