Rovers full back Simon Marples has been called up for the England Semi-Pro side to face Italy on the 1st of March. However, the ex-Stocksbridge Park Steels player has sustained an injury, and could miss up to 2 weeks of first team action. This could throw doubt over the possibilty of a place in the International side.
Rovers, without another recognised right full-back, could recruit ex-Leeds youngster Jamie Price for first team action. Marples has been a revelation since his signing, winning the player of the month award in his first full month. Scouts from several league clubs have been keeping tabs on the player, Premier League side Sunderland had an approach to take him on trial rejected by Rovers boss Ian Snodin.
Marples follows in the footsteps of injured team-mate Simon Shaw, who appeared for the England side twice last season, before sustaining a cruciate ligament injury in the first game of this campaign. Shaw himself hopes to return to action before the end of this season.
