Doncaster News and Features: ROVERS MAKE SIGNINGS
Rovers have finally signed a new striker on permanent forms following months of searching. After the capture of Doncaster born Neil Illman on non-contract terms last week, Rovers have secured the services of an as yet un-named striker from a Unibond league side. The player, said to be a prolific goalscorer in his league, hitting 22 goals so far this season, was due to be introduced to the Rovers fans prior to todays game with Halesowen. However, the player decided to play his last game for his current club, as a farewell to the fans. Rovers have been tracking Guiseley striker Simon Parke for some months, but were initially scared off by the 75k price tag slapped on the player.
Rumours are abound that 36 year old defender Rob Newman will soon pull on a Rovers shirt. Rovers official website stated earlier this week that the club was trying "to recruit an experienced central defender from a southern-based club who has previously had higher level league experience with Norwich City".
Ex Norwich man Newman, currently at Southend United, would provide cover for influential sweeper Mark Atkins following his injury against Sutton United. Doncaster born Atkins has been a revelation in a defence that has kept 9 clean sheets in 13 games since his arrival.
Rovers youth side beat a Manchester United youth team 3-0 in a friendly match earlier today. Darren Fell, fresh from netting a brace against Emley in the league, scored all 3 goals.
