Doncaster News and Features: ATKINS INJURY WOE FOR ROVERS
Atkins, who limped off during the first half of the 1-0 victory at the weekend, sustained a torn calf muscle during the game, and could be sidelined for up to a month, if not more. The worrying news for November's Player of the Month was confirmed today by Rovers physio John Bowden.
Local lad Atkins, who only recently signed a long term contract at the club, will miss this Saturdays FA Trophy clash with Halesowen Town, as well as the Nationwide MacMillan trophy game away at Scarborough. Scarborough will provide the toughest opponents yet in a competition that Doncaster ran away with last season.
Other fixtures of note are potential six pointers coming up against Kingstonian, Morecambe and Hereford, which could halt or initiate a surge up the table by Doncaster in the second half of the season.
Lee Warren will make a return to the side in Atkins absence, and it is he who must shoulder a heavy burden of Rovers recent defensive form, which has been excellent since the ex-Blackburn man arrived from Wolves. Mike Newell a Premier League championship winner with Atkins at Blackburn, will also be out of contention for 4 matches in the near future, while he serves a suspension for his red card against Scarbrough, his second of the season to date.
