Doncaster Features: Famous Doncastrian: Alun Armstrong
Alun Armstrong was born on 17 July 1946 in Doncaster, he's one of the veteran cops in hit drama New Tricks, Alun's been a familiar face on screen since the 1970s. His first break was in the classic film Get Carter, and he's since appeared in movies such as Sleepy Hollow and Van Helsing. TV credits include Bedtime, Carrie's War, When I'm 64 and the BAFTA-winning Bleak House.
His son, Joe Armstrong, is also an actor, and has appeared in BBC dramas Passer By, and Blackpool, as well as Between the Sheets, where he appeared alongside his dad.
