Rovers wing-back Simon Marples will attend a one-week trial at Sunderland before the end of this season. Rovers boss Ian Snodin rejected a previous bid to take the right sided defender on trial earlier this season, but he realises that he cannot stand in the way of the player if a move to the Premiership is offered.
Marples, called up to the England semi-pro side earleir this week, is currently sidelined with an injury to his ankle ligaments, sustained during the FA Trophy exit at the hands of Dover Athletic last week. Marples has been one of the most consistent performers since his arrival from Sheffield non-leaguers Stocksbridge, and is hoping to be fit to appear for England against Italy on 1st March.
Rovers winger Matt Caudwell, also plucked from local Sheffield side Hallam, is also subject to transfer speculation, with Wigan Athletic keen to take the player for a weeks trial.
Rumours have been rife about possible moves for both players, and also midfielder Kevin McIntyre. McIntyre scotched speculation about his long term future by signing an extended contract last week.
