Doncaster News and Features: NO CLUES ABOUT STRIKER IDENTITY

The stories filtering out of the club that a new signing will be made soon are prompting all kinds of speculation as to the identity of the 'mystery striker' who Rovers have made a bid for this week.

Lots of names have been bandied out between fans, one notable case is theat of ex Middlesboro and Brighton striker Ian Baird. Baird is currently playing his football in Hong Kong, where boss Ian Snodin paid a well publicised visit recently. However, the striker in question is said to be based in Yorkshire, and, if press reports are to be believed, a 125k bid has already been offered. This would smash the previous official transfer record, in the region of 62k, and even the 100k fee paid to Bridlington for Graeme Jones during some underhand dealing during the Richardson era.

Ex Manchester United and Norwich striker Mark Robins has also been linked to the club, and he was allegedly spotted outside Belle Vue last week. Robind is thought to be keen to continue playing League football, and could be tempted by several 2nd and 3rd division teams who are also chasing his signature.
