Rovers will be hoping for a return to wiining ways in the Conference, after form team Dover ended a 7 match unbeaten run in the FA trophy last weekend. Ian Snodin's men lost 5-3 at Hereford earlier this season, and will be hoping to avenge the defeat, as they don't want to falter in their quest to climb the Conference table.
The Belle Vue side received a boost yesterday, prior to the fixture, as midfielder Kevin McIntyre agreed to sign a new improved contract. The deal, which will hopefully keep the young Scouser at Belle Vue for another 2 and a half years, comes after months of speculation, with several League clubs vying for McIntyre's signature, despite a strict 'hands off' warning from Chairman John Ryan.
New signing Gary Williams, who scored the winner last Tuesday, returns to the line-up after being cup-tied at the weekend, and influential sweeper Mark Atkins is nearing match fitness after making good progress in his return from a calf injury. Young winger Matty Caudwell could also return, but Rovers are without Glenn Kirkwood (ankle) and Mike Newell who sealed a move to Blackpool yesterday. Newell scored a consolation for Rovers in the 5-3 defeat last September. Simon Marples, who recieved a call-up to the England Semi-Pro side this week, is doubtful after limping off against Dover, and the Rovers management are considering making a loan signing in time for the game if Marples is deemed not fit to take part.
