Doncaster Features: Doncaster Rovers 1 Colchester United 1

Doncaster needed all 3 points from this game if they were going to make the playoffs, especially with teams like Luton and Hartlepool left to play.

It was also Doncaster’s 4th draw in 5 games which Manager Dave Penney will not be happy about.

There were no real chances until Colchester’s goal on 14 minutes. Poor marking left Marino Keith with the ball 6 yards out and simply slotted home into the bottom right-corner to give their 100 or so away fans something to shout about.

It took 22 minutes for Doncaster to have their first shot with Dave Mulligan hitting it from 25 yards which brought a routine save out of Aidan Davidson.

Mulligan had another chance 3 minutes later when he hit a solid effort goalbound but Davidson pushed it away well.

Stephen Hunt was causing the Doncaster wingers problems in the opening period, blocking 3 attempted crosses and frustrating Rovers.

After a short corner, Rovers had another half-chance to equalise in the form of Ricky Ravenhill who but it wide from 25 yards.

Colchester were struggling to muster a chance in any form since the goal and got only their second shot at goal on 44 minutes through Marc Goodfellow who put it wide left.

Neil Roberts put an effort over the bar before Coppinger volleyed right footed on the half-time whistle in a bid to go in even at the break but put it wide.

Coppinger was then substituted and Lewis Guy was brought on.

Early into the second half, Rovers had another chance when Mulligan crossed into the box and found Neil Roberts who hit a shot at goal but it was well gathered by Davidson.

Marc Goodfellow but a shot well wide for the U’s and Hunt had a header eaily saved by Turner before Goodfellow drilled a shot at Turner on the hour mark but the Scottish goalkeeper was on form.

Lewis Guy scored on 70 minutes but his first goal for Doncaster was ruled out for offside.

Danns but a shot wide before Lewis Guy bagged his first goal for Rovers at the far post after a cross from Blundell wide on the right.

Doncaster deserved to be level and substitute Leo Fortune-West missed a chance to put Rovers ahead when he shot wide right on 82 minutes.

Keith put a header wide and then had a shot saved by Turner in stoppage time before the last gasp effort from Doolan as he tried to chip the goalkeeper from 30 yards but it was easily caught.

FINAL SCORE: 1-1
