Pete Postlethwaite's Brassed Off was partially filmed in Doncaster. Set against the backdrop of the
controversial mining pit closure program of 1992-93, this was a
tale of a spirited group of Yorkshire men, all members of a local brass
band, and the beautiful and talented woman who walks into their world -
attracting a whole lot more than just musical admiration.

Booming Brian Blessed, massive British actor born in Mexboro to reprise medieval kings in films and tv such as Much Ado About Nothing and Blackadder, as well as scaling Everest in his spare time.

Michael Denison
Michael Denison was born in Doncaster and became the typical English gentleman in many films including Landfall (1949), Shadowlands (1993), and famous tv series Boyd QC. He also appeared in The Professionals and Rumpole of the Bailey.
Neil Dudgeon
Neil grew up in Intake and attended Danum School up until about 1979. Has starred in many stage & tv productions including Common As Muck.
Kelly Harrison
Kelly plays a paramedic on popular Saturday night tv series Casualty. The gorgeous actress and model went to Hungerhill School and owns a house in Wadworth around which she drives her VW Golf.
Open All Hours
70's sitcom filmed in Helen Ibbotson's Beautique Hair Salon at 15 Lister Avenue in Balby, Arkwright (Ronnie Barker) stuttered through as green & veg shop keeper and Granville (David Jason) was his long suffering errand boy. The house where Nurse Gladys Emmanuel lived was 34 Lister Avenue, just across the road from the shop. After the first series, the owner of number 34 made changes to the exterior, so filming was switched to number 32, the house next door.
Paddington Bear
The wellington boots and jam sandwiches set this bear apart from the rest and the bears were created in Doncaster (Woodlands) by no less than Jeremy Clarkson's mother.

Charlie Williams MBE
Doncaster's groundbreaking comedian who was a regular stand-up on 70's comedy TV show, first shone in the number 5 shirt for Doncaster Rovers in 1955. A tough centre back he stayed with Rovers for 5 years before moving into showbiz.
