Bruce Woodcock
Bruce Woodcock, European, British & British Empire Champion 1945-50, was born in 1921 in Doncaster. In a thirty-nine fight career the former
railwayman (Bruce worked in the Plant works) lost just four times and in the immediate post-war years was one
of the pre-eminent fighters in Europe. Bruce retired from
boxing and moved into the licensed trade, remembered along with his wife
Norah, by many old regulars from the Tumbler, in Edlington.
William Ian 'Iron' Hague
William was the British Heavyweight Champion 1908-11, born Nov 6 1885 Mexborough.
Jon Jo Irwin
Denaby's Jon won The British Featherweight Title,(winning a Lonsdale belt outright),he also won the Commonwealth Title, won Intercontinental titles,and narrowly missed winning the European Featherweight title against former World champion Steve Robinson(many thought he had done enough to win).
