Robin Hood
Sherwood Forest's most notorious medieval outlaw who reputedly robbed from the rich and gave to the poor, is rumoured to have roamed once Barnsdale north of Doncaster (from Hampole and further North). Robin Hood's Well is situated on the Great North Road north of Hampole, and his alleged death as documented in the legendary verse of Gest at the hands of Sir Roger of Doncaster.
